A life saving charity has unveiled two new vehicles which will enable it to continue operating at night.

The new Rapid Response Vehicles will allow the critical care team at Essex and Herts Air Ambulance to operate after dark on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The two specially adapted Volvo XC90s will carry state-of-the-art life-saving equipment and have modified brakes and shock absorbers.

This latest addition means the air ambulance can have two rapid response vehicles stationed at its air base in Earls Colne and in North Weald.

Operations director Cliff Gale said: “This enables us to bring an advanced level of clinical care and equipment to the patient when the helicopters are unable to be tasked due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather, poor light or unplanned maintenance.”
