A life-changing charity which provides volunteer and work placements for the long-term unemployed and people with learning difficulties is in need of a new home.

After securing a £150,000 grant from Greenfields Community Housing and Braintree Council, Tendring Reuse and Employment Enterprise (TREE), opened a base in East Street, Braintree in 2015.

However earlier this year, the landlord of the premises served notice on the charity, giving it until August to vacate.

TREE now needs to find either a shopfront or a medium sized warehouse in Braintree or Witham in order to maintain a presence in the district.

Mark Penn, chief executive and director of TREE, said: “Anything would be considered, long term, short term, as TREE is committed to the residents of the Braintree district.

“We wish to continue helping the general public for as long as possible.”

Since the project first begun, the charity’s staff and volunteers have collected, tested and sold more than 2,000 items of furniture and electrical appliances - delivering them more than 1,500 homes.

An impressive 86 tonnes of unwanted household goods have also been restored or recycled instead of being sent to landfill.

All of its appliances are tested to ensure they are safe, before being sold at affordable prices to members of the public and tenants of housings associations like Greenfields have special offers available to them when buying from the charity.

Anyone who may be able to help find TREE new premises in the district should contact Mark Penn by phone on 0300 9999007, or by email on markpenn@tree1.org.uk.
