An artist from Halstead has unveiled his latest painting at a historic railway station's exhibition space.

Malcolm Root visited Epping Ongar Railway Station to reveal his painting which has been inspired by the Epping to Ongar line in the early 50s.

The painting features one of the iconic Holden F5 2-4-2Ts trains in its final years of service.

The unveiling of the painting on Saturday, June 9, was the start of a special two day exhibition of Mr Root's work, hosted in the railway's Penny Salon art gallery.

Speaking at the event, Mr Root said: "It’s wonderful to be here at the Epping Ongar Railway today giving something back to the railways that have supported me over the years.

"Unveiling my latest picture, featuring a scene at Epping Station, makes it particularly fitting that I am here at Ongar Station."

The station's art gallery is now one year old and hosts regular exhibitions from different Essex artists.

Dean Walton, business development manager at Epping Ongar Railway Station, said: “Malcolm is rightly held in the highest regard for his wonderful compositions.

"It is an honour to have him here at the Epping Ongar Railway with a new painting featuring a locomotive and coaches that almost 70 years ago ran to Ongar.”
