A sports club looks set to gain permission to install LED floodlights.

Gosfield Tennis Club’s plans to put up nine lighting columns at its site off Braintree Road in the village have been recommended for approval by planning officers.

The lights will overlook two of the four tennis courts and could be operated between 4pm and 10pm on weekdays, while they must only be in used between 4pm and 6pm on Sundays.

As part of its design and access statement, the tennis club said the new lighting would secure its future amid uncertainty and growing competition from other clubs in the Braintree district.

Five letters objecting to the plans have been submitted to the council by residents, with concerns centring on the intrusive nature of the proposed lighting.

However, officers have spoken in favour of the club and recommended Braintree Council’s planning committee approves the plans during next week’s meeting on Tuesday, June 5.

The meeting will take place at Causeway House in Bocking End on starting from 7.15pm.
