A writer is appealing for information as she aims to complete a book on the history of one of Halstead’s oldest schools.

Former Halstead Grammar School student Jane Jones is looking to collate as much information as possible on the school, which has since relocated to Colne Road and is now known as the Ramsey Academy.

Ms Jones, who first attended the school in 1962 and is now part of the Halstead Grammar School Old Girls’ Association, has split her book into three sections covering different parts of its history.

However, she is keen to speak to former students and teachers who attended the school. She said: “At the moment, I am writing the second part of the book and am still eager to find more memories, good or bad, from previous pupils, or even descendants of previous pupils who may have talked about their life at the school.

“For the third part of the book, I would be very interested in hearing from girls who were at the school when it closed and who had to move to other schools, and how they coped with the transition.

“I would also love to see any pictures that were taken at the school building after it closed, when it was in use as part of the Ramsey School or since, and particularly any that were taken around the time of its renovation.”

The book will cover the story of Halstead Grammar School from its 16th century origins, right through until it merged with the secondary school in the 1970s to become the Ramsey School. Anyone wishing to get involved or with information should contact janiej@waitrose.com.
