A school pulled together to raise thousands of pounds which will go towards the fight against cancer.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for Gosfield School held a Small School, Big Race day which saw the students take part in a fun run.

Many of the pupils got into the spirit of the day by dressing in pink and helped to raise more than £3,000 for charity Cancer Research UK.

PTA co-chairmen Terri Ulrich and Rebecca Stapleton said: “Although the school exclusively limits classes to 20 pupils everyone in the school family came together at this event to make a big difference – pupils, parents, teachers and support staff all did their bit.”

School registrar Patrick Bell added: “Our PTA members are amazingly dedicated and imaginative at generating additional funding for our school.

“But inspiring our pupils to inspire others is really important to us; and this event has been an excellent example of just that.”

All the proceeds raised will go towards the Race for Life campaign which is run by Cancer Research UK.

Race for Life is a series of events raising money for research into all 200 types of cancer.

Over the past 20 years more than £547 million has been raised to fund the charity’s life-saving work.

Races include 5km, 10km, Pretty Muddy events, half and full marathons and one-day hikes.
