A nursery school has been rated as “outstanding” after its first inspection.

The Barn Nursery School, in Greenstead Green, was awarded the highest rating in all areas by inspectors from Ofsted.

The nursery was registered in 2015, but first inspected in February.

The report, published on Wednesday, said: “All staff are highly vigilant and have a deep understanding of the signs and symptoms of different types of abuse.

“Staff are excellent educators. They know every child exceptionally well and are highly skilled at enabling all children to learn.

“Children thrive in this highly stimulating and exceptionally inclusive learning environment. Staff are extremely nurturing and calm.”

The nursery employs 14 members of childcare staff.

Manager Jess Allen said: “We are overwhelmed, not only by achieving the prestigious outstanding grading, but also by the recognition in the report of the effort, skill , care and dedication put into ensuring rapid progress and the best outcomes for the children.

“This is only made possible by a highly skilled, enthusiastic team of practitioners, including our outside agencies and equally enthusiastic parents.”

The Barn was established in September 2015 by Jess Allen and Victoria Percival, both previously early years leaders in two of Halstead’s primary schools.

The nursery is based on a working farm and children have access to an on-site petting facility.

The report added: “Children are exceptionally happy and confident at the nursery.

“They welcome visitors and willingly engage them in conversation.

“To improve, the provider should continue to enrich babies’ experiences and maintain the excellent standards of learning already achieved.

“Partnerships with parents are exceptional.

“There is an exemplary focus on fully involving parents and families.”
