A daughter will run the London Marathon to raise money for a prostate cancer charity after her dad battled the disease.

Amy Wells, 22, of The Drive, Mayland, will be running on April 22 in aid of the Prostate Cancer Research Centre.

Her dad Alan, 59, battled the illness last year and underwent treatment.

He is now on the road to recovery.

Amy described the support of the charity throughout her dad’s treatment as “impeccable”.

She said: “My dad was lucky enough to be able to fight prostate cancer.

“Prostate cancer is now becoming a bigger killer than breast cancer so it needs even more recognition than what it has now.

“I would like to help to get more money to help research so other children can still have their dads in their life and be lucky like we were.”

The Prostate Cancer Research Centre is a charity solely focused on funding world-class scientists and developing new treatments for advanced prostate cancer.

It aims to develop a new therapy for men with advanced forms of the cancer and increase the survival of the disease.

Amy said: “I cannot thank Prostate Cancer team personally enough for making my dad better and getting him through the treatment.

“So why not chuck myself in the deep end and run a marathon for them instead.

“This way they can help many more men, many more families get through the traumatic experience of being diagnosed with prostate cancer.”
