A 96-year-old great-grandmother has become an international “rock” star.

Maisie Hill, from Mayland, was inspired by Love on the Rocks after her family gave her an unusual present.

Maisie, who also runs the Henry Samuel Dance Club, said: “We were having a 26th anniversary lunch for the village dance group and then up pops my granddaughter and great-granddaughter with a box full of stones.

“They said there wasn’t anything to buy for me so they thought they would do that for me.

“If I haven’t got what I need or want now I never will.”

The craze sees people pick up stones or rocks, paint pretty designs on them and then hide them for others to find, sharing the process on Facebook.

A page called Maisie Rocks was set up by her granddaughter Sarah and great-granddaughter Charlotte, who live in Brixton, Devon.

Halstead Gazette:

Now Maisie runs the international social media group herself.

So far the painted pebbles have made their way to Barcelona, Denmark, Norway and even Australia.

Inspirational Maisie added: “They paint the rocks and then drop them all over the place and the Facebook page has really taken off.

“They post me some of the rocks every so often and our family pass them on so they have gone north, east and south.

"Some members of the dancing club when they have gone off on holiday with them.

“They are all pensioners but lots of them go abroad and some popped rocks in their pockets and went to Australia and dropped them off there.

“We have also had some brought back from Barcelona.”
