A WEIGHT loss support group in Maldon has celebrated its one year anniversary of slimming down its members.

The EC (Eating Clean) Weigh began in January 2017, founded by Emma Chapman at Langford Village Hall, and has since ballooned into a hugely successful weight loss movement.

The programme now has dozens of members, who in the space of a year, through diet plans, action regimes and challenges, have collectively lost more than 200 stone.

Since the group was so popular in its first few weeks, it had to be divided into two, with the Langford group meeting every Wednesday evening at the village hall, and the “Cygnet Slimmers” meeting at the Swan Hotel’s Cygnet room on Maldon High Street on Friday mornings.

In January, Emma held an “Oscars” ceremony at the village hall where she thanked all of her members for a successful first year, awarding many people for their efforts.

She said: “I could not be prouder. In a year that on a personal level could not have been much worse, EC Weigh went from strength to strength.

“What we now have is three strong communities, each and every member gives and takes.

“We’ve learned that each body is different and requires a different recipe of approach.

“Every plan works if implemented but which plan you need is only realised when changes happen. All the plans share some elements.

“Scrap binging and over indulgence, focus on self-control and most importantly, self love.”

Sue Dedman was the group’s top weight loser of the year, managing to drop four stone in 40 weeks.

She said: “The EC Weigh a group that encompasses all the right things a support group should; commitment, support, continuity, fun, information, challenges and learning from each other. All of the vital ingredients for success.

“Emma is the glue that holds it all together, she is magic, the sprinkling of fairy dust that makes it all work. She gives it that special Va Va Voom that makes it stand head and shoulders above the rest.”
