Firefighters were called to tackle a dramatic caravan fire in a busy town street.

Two fire engines were called to Abels Road in Halstead where they discovered the mobile home engulfed in flames.

It took the firefighters half an hour to extinguish the blaze.

A car located next to the caravan is also understood to have been damaged by the fire.

An investigation into the fire took place but the cause has now been recorded as undetermined. Shocked neighbours have described witnessing the huge blaze.

A resident along Abels Road who witnessed the incident said she had been alerted to the fire by a loud noise.

Neighbour Pat Hollinshead said: “We got in late - just after 11pm and heard a bang just after we got in.

“I went to the back door to see if I could see anything and two fire crews were already there and hard at work putting out the fire.

“It was ablaze at the time I looked but they were quick to get it under control.

“We are caravan owners as well and feel for the people who owned this.”
