A TOWN surgery is continuing its road to recovery after the latest inspection by a health watchdog found it was now good across the board.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) had placed Burnham Surgery in special measures after finding it to be inadequate in Spring 2016.

However, subsequent inspections have shown consistent improvements, and now the surgery is rated good in all aspects of its care.

The previous inspection, carried out in January, found the surgery still required improvement in providing safe services to patients.

Following the latest inspection, carried out on August 30, Professor Steve Field has upgraded the safe services category to good.

His report said: “Systems were in place to monitor performance and quality ensuring tasks such as changes to prescriptions and coding of records were carried out safely.

“The process for acting on patient safety and medicine alerts had been reviewed so that all relevant clinicians were able to action the alerts when received.

“The practice had a consistent process to ensure that all changes to prescriptions were authorised by a clinician.

“They had a system in place to evidence and document that the learning from significant events and relevant information had been cascaded to all members of staff.”

Jane Walsh, practice manager at Burnham Surgery, took over after the practice had been placed in special measures and promised to turn the surgery around.

She was delighted with the latest report. She said: “We have now had a further CQC inspection which went very well. Everyone at the surgery has worked extremely hard to achieve this rating.”
