PLANS to restore murals created in Colchester subways are underway.
Colchester Civic Society and Colchester in Bloom secured £52,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund in order to complete work on the murals under Southway.
School students have been visiting as well as filming visits by youth training group Signals who are documenting the restoration.
The stone murals, by artists Henry Collins and Joyce Pallot, were created in the 1950s and are widely acknowledged as important examples of the husband and wife team’s early work.
A filmwill be screened at a special reception at Colchester Arts Centre.
Rachel Hipkiss, director at Signals Media, said: “We are delighted to be working on this project which has inspired our young filmmakers.”
