A RESIDENT has blasted the “lazy and selfish” fly-tippers who dumped a huge pile of rubbish on a narrow country lane near Halstead.

Kat Inkley was driving to work from her home in Halstead through White Ash Green. She was forced to pull over when she saw the waste dumped in the passing point in the road.

Miss Inkley said: “It was mostly house building materials but there were two baby car seats and a red sofa too. I was surprised to see it then it made me angry and annoyed.

“It was definitely dangerous. It is a single track country road and the rubbish had partially blocked one of the laybys that is needed for oncoming traffic.

“The people who unloaded the rubbish are lazy and selfish, with not a consideration for others and their safety.

“Someone could have paid a lot of money to have this removed correctly and are none-the-wiser.”

The rubbish was reported to Braintree Council at around 9am on Wednesday and cleared later the same day.

A Braintree Council spokesperson said: “Fly tipping is solely unacceptable – it ruins our environment and brings additional cost to our taxpayers.

“That’s why we are supporting the #CrimeNotToCare campaign to make people aware that if they dispose of any waste, they must do so responsibly otherwise they may end up with a criminal record and a hefty fine.”

In the Braintree District there were 724 incidents reported in 2016-17, a fall of 7% on 2015/16. Visit www.recycleforessex.com/crimenottocare.
