A VINTAGE Christmas fair is set to return to Maldon for the third year.

The annual Maldon Vintage Christmas Fair, will take place in November, and hopes to build on the success of last year’s event.

Thousands of people descended on Maldon High Street last year dressed in Shakespearean garb in recognition of the theme inspired by the famous bard.

This year, the costumes will be a bit more modern, as the vintage fair moves from the 1600s to the 1900s with a Forties theme.

Michael Pearlman, chairman of the Maldon Vintage Christmas Fair Committee, believes that the new theme will prove just as popular with residents.

He said: “Last year was absolutely outstanding. I was overwhelmed by the response. It was fantastic. I remember speaking to a lot of people on the night who said they were already looking forward to this year’s event.

“This year, the Maldon Vintage Christmas Fayre is going to be even better than the previous one. The theme is the fabulous forties, which will allow everyone to dress up in what is considered to be a historic period.

“Due to the success of the previous events, sponsorship by Maldon businesses is greater than ever which means the entertainment is even more spectacular.”

The event will include performances from a number of acts reflecting the forties theme on the two stages, outside All Saints Church and The Swan pub.

This includes a Vera Lynn tribute act, the Maldon drama group, the Big Sing, and many more.

Prizes will also be handed out on the night for the best dressed family in keeping with the forties theme, the best dressed stall, the best display for one of the large High Street shops, and the best display for one of the small High Street shops.

The night will also feature the switching on of the Maldon Christmas Lights by the mayor at 7pm outside All Saints Church.

Children will also get the chance to meet Father Christmas as he makes a special appearance at the winter wonderland in Bright’s Path.

The 2017 Vintage Christmas Fair will take place on November 30.
