THE parents of a miracle baby who defied doctors and lived for five months are raising money for the Sick Children’s Trust.

Victoria and Ashley Jones, of Conies Road, Halstead, were told baby George would only live for a matter of hours as his bowel, liver and stomach were growing outside of his body.

But he battled on and the trust helped them stay by his bedside at Addenbrookes’s Hospital in Cambridge rather than travelling back and forth to Halstead.

Victoria said: “They were the charity who put us up when George was in the hospital and it made all the difference. We were literally a two minute walk from his bedside, rather than being an hour drive away.

“It really does make such a difference to the family, and we are hoping we can help them continue to do that.”

Ashley and Victoria were told at a 24-week scan George would only be alive for four hours.

On August 31 the family celebrated what would have been his first birthday.

Victoria added: “We released 60 balloons as well as having a bit of a party with all the family, which was great.

“It means a lot to me and Ash that we can continue doing this, and create a bit of a legacy of George.

I think we are up to just under £7,000 since last October, and now we’ve set ourselves the target of raising £25,000.”

A quiz will be held at Halstead Town FC on October 21 in aid of the charity.

Tickets cost just £2 and are available by calling 07792 318716.
