A SCHOOL which bucked the trend by continuing to offer AS Level exams has been rewarded with successful results.

A number of schools and colleges only offer the A Level programme, meaning students face all their exams at the end of the two years, after Government reforms.

But Gosfield School’s Sixth Form Centre decided offering exams at the end of Year 12 is the right things to do for students, giving them the opportunity to specialise in Year 13 and effectively monitor their process.

Alice Kilby, achieved straight As in French, Spanish and Business Studies, said: “It will really help when visiting universities so that I can tell them my grades from my AS Levels and feel confident that I can meet the entry requirements they are asking for.”

Alice is hoping to study French and Spanish with Business at university, with a year abroad option.

Universities recommend that schools and colleges continue to offer AS exams as these give institutions the best indicators of potential in A Levels.

Pip Allen, also in Year 12, achieved highly in her fours AS exams too, including a Grade A in Sociology.

She said: “I am really pleased with my AS results today. It is such a relief to know I’m on the right track.

“I am looking forward to using these to push on next year.

“It really helps to know how the exams work, the marking and grade boundaries so I can discuss it with my teachers and get even higher grades in my finals.”

Gosfield School’s Sixth Form Centre is hosting an open morning on October 7 from 10am to 1pm.
