RESIDENTS have been warned about a scam after a bogus worker attempted to sell garden furniture.

Poplar Nurseries in Marks Tey issued a warning over their Facebook page to customers, saying they had been notified about a potential scam.

The message said: “Please be aware, we have been informed by a member of the public that there is a man posing as a member of Poplar Nurseries staff cold calling at properties, attempting to sell garden furniture that he is claiming is water damaged.

“This caller is bogus and does not represent Poplar Nurseries in any way.

“The police have been informed. Please do not fall foul to this scam.”

The post has been shared almost 500 times on Facebook and the garden centre has thanked residents for spreading the word so quickly.

The statement was also published on the Poplar Nurseries website and Twitter account.

Staff said residents in the West Bergholt area in particular were being targeted.

The family-run garden centre in Coggeshall Road was contacted but no-one was available for comment.

Essex Police were also contacted but we were unable to get a response.

Anyone with information should contact 101.
