A NURSERY has been praised by inspectors for the “secure emotional relationships” staff build with children.

Homesteaders Day Nursery, in Sudbury Road, Gestingthorpe, was rating ‘good’ across all areas by Ofsted after a visit on June 21.

Staff at the nursery were highly praised by the watchdog who said children felt “confident and secure” and made “good progress in their learning”.

The report states: “Staff are responsive to children’s needs and are good role models.

“Children learn to be polite and demonstrate good manners.

“Overall, staff make accurate assessments of what children know and can do.

“They effectively use this information to provide activities that are matched to children’s abilities.”

Opportunities for children to exercise and enjoy the rural environment were also said to be a positive point and children’s independence was encouraged.

The report states that improvements could be made to more specifically target individual’s learning needs and the nursery could work closer with parents to find out more about what children already know.

Sue Aitken, owners of Homesteaders Day Nursery, said: “We are very happy with the report and it sets us up for the future.

“All of the staff have been here a long time and that speaks for itself.

“We do not have a high turnover of staff and I think that shows.

“We have all known each other well for a long time and we get on well.”

The nursery was last inspected in 2015 when it was also rated as ‘good’.
