A FIREFIGHTER’S wife is set jump out a plane to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Tracy Bacon decided to take on the challenge after seeing first-hand the daily struggles her retained firefighter husband, Lee, faces.

Tracy, who has jumped before, is looking forward to the prospect of flying through the air from 12,000 feet.

She said: “I definitely didn’t think too much about before we booked it up, but I am definitely quite excited about it now, although I may not feel the same on the morning.

“I did a skydive a long time ago now, and it is one of those where you land and want to do it again instantly, but if you thought too much about it beforehand, you’d never get up there.

“I am doing it tandem with a friend, Sarah Gott, and we both decided we wanted to do something for a worthwhile cause.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides support for the UK firefighting community, helping those injured, ill or in need of psychological support.

Tracey added: “There’s been a lot of publicity recently with the Grenfell Tower fire, and it really does hammer home the work firefighters do.

“I think people are more appreciative of the work they do, and the effect it can have.

“But all the public see is the heroes, not the mental and physical effects it can have, and that is where the Fire Fighters Charity steps in.”

Tracey, who co-owns NCF Architectural Ironmongery with Lee, will take on the challenge next Saturday.

And in a continued push to raise money and awareness for the work of firefighters, NCF is hosting an open day on Wednesday.

Tracy said: “We are hoping to offer advice on the process, and what it takes to join the on-call team.

“And with Lee on hand, we can talk about all the positives to the role.”

NCF, on Broton Drive, Halstead is inviting residents for tea, coffee and cake from noon till 5pm on Wednesday.
