A PRIMARY school have been supporting an Ethiopian community with the donation old uniforms, as well as sponsoring two children.

In the Autumn term last year St. Margaret’s Prep School were moved by the work of local charity, Ethiopia Hope, that supports a community in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.

At Christmas the school donated some new, but old style, Prep School summer uniform and the children, who usually get a small present from their teacher, donated the money instead to sponsor two Ethiopian children, Tigust and Yohanas, through day care.

Mrs Moss, the Deputy Head, said “We have just received letters from the sisters who look after Yo - hanas and Tigust with some colourings that the children have done, together with photographs showing some of the older children wearing the summer uniform. We are hopeful that our links with the charity, and the community it supports, will continue for years to come.”

Sister Terfau from the Day Care Centre in Bahir Dar wrote “Dear St. Margaret’s, Many thanks for your generous donation which is helping the poor of Bahir Dar.

“The clothes that you donated has helped many children experience the joy of new clothes.

“Many thanks also for sponsoring Tigust and Yohanas at Day Care allowing them education and food. Your generosity is a great help and without such as you many people would be in a worsening situation. Once again I thank you and may God bless you.”

Mike King, the organiser of Ethiopia Hope, has advised St. Margaret’s that a most prized posses - sion in Bahir Dar is a replica football shirt - any team is greatly valued by the children there and quickly become their number one possession.

The School are organising a collection of repli - ca shirts, and are setting up an area at their School Fete on June 30 where these can be dropped off, and where photos of the sponsored children can be seen. Call the school on 01787 472134.
