A HALSTEAD primary school is set to host a Reading Gladiators inter-school challenge as part of a nationwide campaign.

Next Thursday, six primary schools in the area will attend a challenge day hosted by Holy Trinity Primary School, on Beridge Road.

Over the course of the day, students from across the area will compete in three challenges based on a set of eight tailored books they have read and evaluated throughout the year, pitting their wits against opposing teams in a contest of knowledge, performance and creativity.

There will be quiz questions as well as artistic and dramatic events to test the children's' skills as a "Reading Gladiator".

The school who most impress the judges and fight their way to victory will carry the trophy back to their school with pride and the knowledge that they are the "Reading Gladiator Champions 2017".

The competition has been organised by Just Imagine, who focus on delivering excellence in reading.

Pupils from Holy Trinity will face off against Halstead's Richard de Clare and St Andrews, as well as Layer de la Haye Primary, Stanway Fiveways and Monkwick Primary.
