HALSTEAD will be brimming with pride as the town comes together to celebrate Civic Day.

The national celebration of civic pride will be marked across Halstead next weekend, with a host of organisations agreeing to get involved.

It is hoped that residents will come together to celebrate everything that makes the small market town great and highlight Halstead’s community spirit.

Eileen Penn, town councillor, has taken a leading role in the organisation of the event.

She said: “It should be a really good day, we have had a really good response from across town.

“It is the first year we have been involved in Civic Voice and we thought it would be a great way to show people how proud we are of the town.”

Civic Day is a national celebration of civic pride organised by Civic Voice and celebrated on Saturday, June 17. Groups from across the town will be joining the celebrations, as they spend the day highlighting their pride in the town.

Schools from across town and resource centre users have submitted drawings depicting what they love about the town which will be turned into a banner and erected by Halstead in Bloom.

Halstead 21st Century Group, alongside members of Halstead in Bloom, the RiverCare Group and Halstead Churches together will spend the morning litter picking and river cleaning.

Halstead & District Local History Society will be manning a stall on Market Hill all morning and will be available to talk about Halstead’s rich and varied heritage and history, as well as selling local history books.

Halstead Churches Together will be theming their services on “Halstead”

on June 18.
