A TOTAL of 60 new homes for retired residents could be built in Witham.

Churchill Retirement Living is preparing a planning application for the homes at the former Bramston Sports Centre site in Bridge Street.

The homes will be made up of one and two bedroom apartments for people over 60.

There will be a lodge manager, a 24-hour care line, an owners’ lounge and guest suite.

A public exhibition will be held at Witham Public Hall in Collingwood Road on Tuesday, June 13.

It will run from 5pm until 7pm and residents will have the opportunity to see the proposals and meet members of the development team.

Andrew Burgess, planning director of Churchill Retirement Living, said: “There is a real need for private retirement housing in the Witham area. Our proposed development will go some way to increasing access to this type of housing for local residents.

"By meeting this rising demand, we can allow older people to downsize and free up under occupied houses in the local area for families.

“As well as meeting the need for high-quality retirement apartments, the development will bring benefits to the local economy.

"Owners will be within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and other amenities in the town, helping to boost local businesses.”

Plans for the development will also be available to view at www.churchillretirement.co.uk/planning/live-consultations from June 14.
