A HALSTEAD teacher has gained Gold Teacher Ambassador accreditation for parliament.

After graduating from the Teachers Institute, Helen Price, of the Ramsey Academy, was offered the opportunity to complete her gold accreditation.

The key principle encourages teachers to spread the word about parliament and democracy, within their own school and other schools in the community.

Mrs Price organised a parliament and citizenship training session for members of staff from other schools to share my knowledge and experience, as well as organising a competition with St. Mary’s School in Colchester.

The teacher also ran a question and answer session with our local MP James Cleverley and delivered parliamentary assemblies across the Academy.

This work has been praised by the Parliamentary Education Service who have said: “It looks as though you have been really busy with all of this and the numbers you’ve reached are really impressive!”

This represents a huge accolade for the Academy, and means Mrs Price has been invited back to parliament to work with other teachers by sharing good practice and helping them to work towards bronze, silver or gold accreditation for their schools.

The impact on the students has been vast, with many talking and asking questions about the forthcoming election, as well as preparing for our own Ramsey election on June 8.
