A CADET group came an impressive second place in a competition to test their skill.

Six of the Braintree Cadets went to Colchester Cadet Training Centre where they took part in the annual Falklands Tri-service competition.

This is the first time the team has attempted the competition, and they were very proud to come in second.

The cadets celebrated on their Facebook page, which said: "A massive well done to D Company and Braintree army cadets on coming second.

"Seven teams from around Essex gathered to compete and if successful go on the represent Essex in the Tri-service Falklands competition.

"Braintree were up against amongst the other teams three detachments that have had much success and knowledge of the competition and for Braintree to get second place being fresh out of water is an outstanding achievement."

The competition has been running for 32 years and is a mark of respect and remembrance for the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the 1982 war.

A kit check starts the competition and the cadets have to draw on their teamwork, leadership and physical fitness to complete nine different challenges during the day before spending the night camping.

The next morning starts with clay target shooting and paintballing before being tasked to manage a casualty simulation incident and then to really challenge the teams- a missile race.

The first three teams now go onto the next stage in September where they will compete against other cadet corps.
