A Town Hall's 300-year-old chimney could be reconstructed to its former glory.
Witham Town Council, which uses the Town Hall in Newland Street, has applied to Braintree Council to demolish and reconstruct one of the crumbling chimneys at the back.
A design statement said: "(The Town Hall) offers a highly positive contribution to the Witham Town Centre conservation area as a focal point and home of Witham Town Council.
"The building is Grade II listed, with the oldest portions dating back to the 1600s."
The chimney in question is believed to have been built between 1700 and 1800.
The design statement said: "The town council seeks to reconstruct this chimney as part of a wider package of general repairs and maintenance to ensure that the character and integrity of the building is preserved."
