RESIDENTS are unimpressed with the condition their road has been left in following repair works.

Essex County Council started resurfacing roads at the Humber Road estate, including Yare Avenue, about two weeks ago.

Residents in Witham said it looked messy and half finished.

Daniel Cook, of Yare Avenue, said: "Everyone living there thinks it's ridiculous because it makes the estate look terrible.

"They had signs up in advance saying that major resurfacing was to take place and that the estate would be inaccessible, yet when finished we were left wondering what took them so long and who in their right mind would sanction such a weak effort at fixing the roads.

"Instead of doing the whole road they did some random patch work and they now look awful.

"I'm just disappointed with the poor effort.

"The estate would look so much better having decent roads, sadly it has just brought the whole look of the place down."

Nadine Rudd, another resident, said it looked like an unfinished job, and was very unsightly.

The work is not yet complete as another layer of surfacing needs to take place.

Nick Hawkins, another resident, said: "It's a complete and utter waste of taxpayers' money.

"People pay good money for their homes, pay more money to make them look nice and have nice things in them."

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “The road repairs in the Humber Road Estate are temporary patches which have been applied to the surface before permanent resurfacing takes place later in the year.”
