CONSULTATION on an order to stop boy racers and rough sleepers congregating in town centre car parks has ended.

Colchester Council plans to implement a public spaces protection order in car parks it runs in the town.

The proposed order would cover:

  • Butt Road car park
  • Napier Road car park
  • St Mary's car park
  • St John's car park
  • Vineyard Gate car park
  • Britannia car park
  • Middleborough car park
  • Priory Street car park
  • Sheepen Road car park

The aim of the order is to deter antisocial behaviour, including speeding and loud music, gatherings to drink or use drugs, defecating and urinating.

The move comes after complaints from residents and Essex Police.

A Colchester Council spokesman said although consultation on the proposals ended on April 24, the order is not yet in force.

No date has been given for its implementation.
