RESIDENTS are being given the chance to quiz the people vying to be Colchester's next MP.

At the time of going to press, sitting member Will Quince (Con) was set to pit his wits against veteran Lib Dem Sir Bob Russell on the Mercury Theatre stage.

Other candidates, including from Labour, Ukip and the Green Party, are expected to attend when they are confirmed.

The event takes place on Wednesday, May 17 between 7.30pm and 9pm.

Steve Mannix, Mercury Theatre executive director, said: "This is a great opportunity for up to 500 people to get directly involved in this election.

"We first held a hustings in 2015, with questions ranging from major international issues to local street lights.

"This time round the hustings will be thirty minutes longer to allow time for more questions."

Tickets for the events cost £2.50 and proceeds will go to the Mercury Rising campaign.
