LONG-AWAITED essential work to finish off a new housing development will be completed before the end of June.

A number of issues had been brought to light throughout the Northfields scheme, off Turner Road, Colchester, by Martin Goss, Colchester councillor for Mile End.

His list included road problems as well as unfinished lighting and landscaping.

Now developers Linden Homes have vowed to carry out all the work within two months.

The housing bosses have secured a meeting with Essex Highways to identify what work must be done on the roads before they are adopted by Essex County Council.

That meeting will also identify any streetlights which do not work.

Linden Homes bosses did, though, admit "substantial" work still needs to be carried out to meet the expectations laid out when planning permission of the development was given.

Mr Goss said: "Following my complaint to the board of directors of Linden Homes it would appear that the message has been delivered loud and clear residents want this whole development completed expeditiously.

"We will ensure Lindens are held to account on these new dates."
