A preschool jumped from requires improvement to good following a positive Ofsted report.

Wethersfield Preschool, on Hedingham Road, was rated good in all areas following an inspection on March 20, after being rated as requires improvement in June last year.

Inspectors found that management and staff at the preschool have worked hard to address the recommendations for improvements.

The report said: “The new manager and staff have implemented a number of changes that have successfully improved the quality of the pre-school and outcomes for children.

“Staff have a secure knowledge of how children learn and provide a varied programme of activities and play opportunities.”

In order to further improve the quality of early years provisions, inspectors suggested helping extend children’s thinking skills, as well as extended the range of information sought from parents when children start.

A preschool statement read: "Wethersfield Preschool prides itself on the care and support it provides to all of our children and families.

"After our last Ofsted inspection, we were given clear direction on what improvements were required.  All efforts have been made to make the vast improvements required.

"With the appointment of a new Manager – Claire Oakley, a new Deputy Manager – Toni Jackson-Lake, and utilising the experience of Lorraine Smith who has worked at the preschool for over 30years, the most recent inspection has proven our hard work and commitment has paid off.

"Wethersfield Preschool would like to thank the Pavilion Playing Field Committee and Wethersfield Cricket Club for their continued support which has allowed us the opportunity to provide a high quality facility for the children to use.

"We would also like to acknowledge our committee and staff members who have worked tirelessly to ensure we were awarded the grade we deserve.

"Most importantly we would like to extend our appreciation to the parents and children of the Preschool for their continued support and the level of faith they have invested in us.

"This September we will be celebrating 50 years since the preschool was first founded, and are delighted to be able to celebrate this with an Ofsted grade to be proud of."
