A BRAIN injury charity have announced a mountain bike challenge to be held in Halstead.

Headway Essex will hold a 'Off the Beaten Track' event aimed at mountain bike enthusiasts of all levels.

The event promises something for the whole family, with either the Mountain Bike Challenge or Family Explorer Trail to choose from.

Headway provide brain injury care and support, and will add Off the Beaten Track to their long list of regular fundraisers.

Tracy Wellsted, Headway Essex’s Event Manager, said: “We’re so excited to launch this new event, Off the Beaten Track will offer something for everyone who loves mountain biking.

"They’ll be a mixed terrain mountain bike challenge for the experienced biker with flat out fast tracks and technical sections, plus a family explorer trail for anyone who can ride a bike.”

The event is booked for April 29, with the route off Hedingham Road, Halstead. 

Both events will offer a varied terrain with a mixture of off road tracks including flat out fast tracks, wooded and open sections and technical sections.

Whatever your ability this event promises to provide a great mix of technical challenges and time to just have fun and enjoy a great ride.

The 'Mountain Bike Challenge' will feature one lap heats lasting around 15 to 20 minutes with a maximum of 20 people per heat.

The riders from each group will then be split into A and B group finals of 2 to 3 laps with the top three entries from each final receiving a prize.

The ‘Family Explorer Trail’ is open to all ages and is a real adventure trail marked with arrows and includes mini challenges with prizes available.

All participants of both events will receive a certificate of achievement and must wear helmets.

All profits will go to Headway Essex.
