WAR is set to descend on Colne Valley Railway for a fun event.

The railway played a major part in the war effort as it served many local airfields that were dotted around the region.

On April 2, the tourist attraction will mark the history with its Colne Valley at War day.

In what is always a fun packed day, staff and many visitors dress head to toe in periodic uniforms, while trains and other military vehicles descend on the site, on Yeldham Road.

Stream train rides will be available throughout the day.

The railway had been closed since before Christmas, but is set to reopen with this traditionally popular event.

At the end of last year, the Colne Valley Railway Preservation Society was granted £1.757 million of Heritage Lottery Funding.

This money will the fund the All Aboard: Developing the Colne Valley Railway project.

With Colne Valley at War marking the reopening, the event will quickly be followed by a Vintage Rally at the end of the month.

A wide range of vintage vehicles are set to be on display, with trains of all ages featuring.

Both events prove to be hugely popular year after year, as well as fun for all the family. A Vintage Rally will follow on April 22 and 23.
