HALSTEAD Leisure Centre has reopened following a power cut.

The centre had cancelled all activities and reported that phone lines were not working.

In a statement published on Facebook the centre said: "Customer information. Unfortunately we are experiencing a power cut at the centre. All activities are cancelled until further notice.

"Phone lines are also out. We will update you once we hear more from UK Power network."

An update as of 9.30am said: "The power has been restored.

"Gym and classes are back to programmed times. The pool will be back open to the public at 12pm. School Swimming lessons will commence at 10.30am."

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: "Following a fault on the electricity network at 8.17am, 1,316 customers in the Colne Road area of Halstead would have seen an interruption to their power supply.

"Our engineers worked quickly to restore power to 1,313 customers within seven minutes, leaving three without electricity.

"We would like to reassure them that we are working hard have their power back to them as soon as we can and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
