A POLICEMAN and his dog located a missing man in a cemetery and saved his life.

On Saturday, PC Luke Pitchford and police dog Tex, a general purpose German Shepherd, were called to search for a missing man in Halstead.

The man had been walking around country lanes near Halstead for several hours and made a call to the mental health team to tell them he was on his way back to the town.

Luke and Tex were deployed to search for the man and Luke recalled hearing information earlier that day that the man’s Father-in-law was buried at a cemetery in the town. Luke was unfamiliar with the area but quickly located a cemetery and began searching the area with PD Tex.

Within minutes, the pair located the man and Luke approached him calmly and reassured him that he was there to help him.

The man disclosed he had harmed himself and it was clear to Luke that he needed urgent medical attention. Whilst requesting for an ambulance, Luke took the man to the police car to keep him warm whilst waiting for an ambulance.

The good result has been one of many for Luke and Tex this week.

On Friday, the pair caught a suspect in the act of harassing a woman and her children in Chelmsford.

Luke approached the property unnoticed by the aggressive man who was attempting to break into the property.

Luke challenged the man who was uncooperative at first but when faced with a challenge from PD Tex, the man cooperated with Luke and was swiftly arrested.
