A RESIDENT has told of their disappointment with Essex County Council after they failed to fix a broken street light.

The street light on the footpath between Ramsey Road and Mount Pleasant was reported as broken in October, but will not be fixed until next month.

A Ramsey Road resident has claimed the footpath is currently unsafe due to a severe lack of visibility without the street light.

The resident said: “It must have been around Halloween when I first reported it to the council, and I was told it would be fixed shortly, but obviously not.

"I walk along that footpath every night on the way back from work, and to be honest it is quite scary and makes me feel uneasy. I can walk around, but it adds an extra 15 minutes, which I shouldn’t have to do just to get home.

"It is a public footpath that is well used, and it is not right that people now cannot use it because it is impossible to see where you are going.”

Essex Highways confirmed the street light is due to be replaced in February.

The resident added: “It is very disappointing that it won’t be fixed until February.

“A lot of elderly people live in the area, and they do use the footpath, if I think it is unsafe it must be worse for them.”

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “Our contractor has this on their schedule for repair replacing the existing light with a new LED lantern.

“We expect this to be carried out by mid-February.”
