LAST week's snow may not have been enough to close school for the day, but it was enough to inspire some outside learning from one Gosfield School.

Year 4s at St Margaret's Preparatory School took their maths lesson outside to take advantage of the rare winter sprinkling of snow.

The children took to the school playing field to compete in a 'who can build the largest snowball' challenge.

To keep with the curriculum, the children measured each snowball and plotted the results on graphs.

Year 4 teacher, Simon Clinch, said: "Once in a while, you have to tear up your plans and go with what life throws at you.

"Year 4 took advantage of the snow today to capture the children's enthusiasm and get outside for a spot of maths.

"Both classes togged up to measure the depth of snow and take part in a challenge: who could build the largest snowball? This data was recorded and will be plotted on graphs.

"The children had great fun learning about accurate measurement and data collection and we were able to include a bit of science too- with some of the huge snowballs, it was the perfect opportunity to talk about inertia and momentum."
