A SCHOOL has been praised by Ofsted for their continued success, despite seeing three headteachers leave in less than two years.

Gosfield Community Primary was rated as Good in its latest short inspection report, published last Friday.

The school was last inspected in 2011, when it was rated good.

Stand-in headteacher Joanne Morgan, 28, was praised for the way she has adapted to the role since her appointment last April.

After Anthony Kern stepped down in September 2014, Karen de Pietro served until the following January, when Marianne Cartwright took over until last April.

The report stated: “The learning curve that you have had to climb has been extremely steep but you have managed it very well.

“In a relatively short time you have stabilised the school so that morale among staff is high, pupils enjoy coming to school and the trust of parents is returning.”

The Ofsted report found that the areas for development from the last inspection have been adequately addressed, including the creation of a better outdoor play area.

The inspector found improving the quality of phonics teaching had been made a priority and the proportion of the Year 1 students on track to reach the expected level was in line with the national average.

The report stated: “Pupils enjoy coming to school and show very good attitudes to learning.

“They behave very well because the rules are clear and staff ’s expectations are high.

“Pupils are well mannered and friendly, welcoming to visitors and keen to talk about their school and their work.”

To improve, the school must focus more on handwriting, grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Ms Morgan said: “We are just delighted to have our hard work recognised.

“We all work really hard here, and I am lucky enough to have a great team of really focused staff and governors.

“It has all happened a bit sooner than expected, but I have had huge support from every single person at the school.

“The children must be praised as well, they make a lot of this happen and make the hard work worthwhile. It was a huge team effort from the whole school and we are all very proud.”
