THE former flatmate of convicted dog-abuser Kieren Milledge has revealed how she handed him in to police.

Angel Woodall, 19, spent nine months sharing an apartment with Milledge and his Staffordshire bull terrier Ronnie, who died three days after the brutal attack.

Milledge, 22, was jailed for eight months on Friday after admitting hanging Ronnie by his lead and swinging him against the wall of a train.

CCTV showed him viciously attacking the animal using his hands, feet and knees before pushing his foot against the dog's face.

He was also sentenced for possessing a knife and breaching a suspended sentence at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.

Miss Woodall says that she was originally told the dog had died of a heart-attack, but called the police on Milledge when she found out the truth.

She said: "Me and my partner were both absolutely devastated, disgusted and sickened.

"Ronnie was brought into our home by Kieren's Auntie, apparently she could no longer have him so was giving him to Kieren to re-home.

"From that moment we saw Ronnie every day as my bedroom door was kept open a lot of the time apart from when we slept, and even then we would wake up in the morning and he would be by our door.

"We would sometimes buy him food as Kieren would be struggling for money and we would never see Ronnie go hungry.

"He was an old boy who just wanted lots of love and attention. He was very fond of me and my partner and was always allowed on our bed."

Angel said she hasn't seen Kieren since August when he was evicted from their flat, but said she recognised him immediately in CCTV stills issued by police trying to identify him.

She said: "Kieren was evicted in August, and we first heard that Ronnie had passed away when he told his girlfriend that he had died of a heart attack on October 12.

"She contacted us to let us know as she knew we would be heartbroken.

"It was only when the news came out and we saw the cruel and evil act of violence Kieren had done to Ronnie that we realised he clearly wasn't who we thought we was.

"I saw the article within ten minutes of it being posted on the news and burst into tears.

"I knew straight away that it was Kieren and Ronnie and acted on this immediately by contacting Crimestoppers and giving his details across.

"Me and my partner then met up with some friends and decided to find out where Kieren was as we knew he had been sleeping rough at Chelmsford bus station, and contacted the police so they could arrest him."

Milledge, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

He was also banned from keeping animals for life but Angel told how she believes the sentence given to Keiren was not long enough.

She said: "I am quite annoyed, in my eyes it's not long enough.

"In my eyes Ronnie was taken so cruelly and didn't stand a chance.

"We just want some kind of justice for him."

Angel is trying to raise money to have Ronnie cremated.
