MORE than 30 signs warning people they will be fined if they leave dog mess behind have been put up in a village.

The signs and posters have been erected by Braintree Council’s dog warden following complaints by Sible Hedingham Parish Council.

The parish council has highlighted the recreation ground as the worst area, but the issue is also prominent along the Riverside Walk and at Grays Hall Meadow.

Clerk Glenda McCoyd said: “We are really trying to have a crackdown.

“Our village maintenance operative is always cleaning up other people’s dog poo.

“Residents have complained about it, and it is not nice for anyone. It is just unnecessary.

“This has been an ongoing issue and it is time to really stop it.

“The dog warden has been hugely supportive. He has a hard job covering a large area but took the time to come and discuss the issue with us. He will also be doing a number of patrols at various times and places.

“We just the want the village’s dog owners to be a bit more responsible.”

The fine for those caught leaving dog foul is £75.

The council has also instigated a ‘See it Report it’ scheme, where residents can report dog fouling from the the parish council offices.

The parish council will continue to sell doggie bags from the office, with a pack available for 50p.
