THE council are hosting two community planting events to celebrate national tree planting week.

Halstead Conservation Group volunteers will be joined by students from Ramsey Academy at the woodland, known as Coggeshall Pieces, on Hawthorn Close in Halstead.

The Friends of Hoppit Mean Local Nature Reserve will be meeting with beavers, cubs and scouts to plant trees and install tree guards at the Braintree event at Marshalls Park on London Road.

Both events are part of The Tree Council's national tree planting week and take place next Saturday from 10am.

Wendy Schmitt, councillor responsible for environment and place, said: “There is no better way to change the view of our nature reserves than by adding trees to it.

"We have so many reasons to celebrate trees from improving air quality, enhancing the green landscape of the town to attracting a wealth of wildlife.

"We would love to see the community come together to participate and maintain our district’s green spaces for residents to use and enjoy.”

Spades and gloves will be available for those wishing to get involved however wearing sensible footwear and clothing is encouraged.
