AN annual charity golf day has raised enough money to provide two years of physiotherapy and a family trip to Euro Disney for a little boy suffering from a life altering condition.

Lenny Pyne, eight, of Earls Colne, was born with cerebral palsy.

He needed to undergo an operation at Portland Hospital in January to allow him to put his feet flat on the ground.

Following the surgery, Lenny now requires intense physio for the next two to three years.

‘Walk with Lenny’ was the main beneficiary of the Daniel Robinson and Sons Charity Golf Day at Colne Valley Golf Club on Wednesday.

The day raised more than £38,000 in total, which will be split between a number of charities.

The initial aim was to use funds to cover the £12,000 cost of one year of intensive specialist physiotherapy, which is not funded by the NHS, needed to maintain his progress to help him to fulfil his dream to walk ‘just like his friends’.

A crowd funding page was set up by the company in advance of the day with the goal of raising £4,000, this was met on Tuesday and contributes to the total funds.

However, due to the success of the event and huge generosity of the golfers, local businesses and the community who donated and contributed to the event, managing director, Gary Neill, announced as the evening drew to a close that it would now be possible to cover two years of physiotherapy and send Lenny and his family to Euro Disney.

Before his operation, which the community raised £31,000 to pay for, Lenny was forced to walk on his tip toes but is now one step closer to his dream of walking flat footed without crutches.

Lenny also left the fundraiser with a brand new laptop, after one man won the item in the raffle and offered it to Lenny, before winning a TV, which he then offered to Lenny’s younger brother, Stanley.

Gary Neill, of Daniel Robinson & Sons, which has branches in both Halstead and Braintree, said: “It was an incredibly moving and rewarding evening.

“In addition to being able to help Lenny fulfil his dreams, we have also been able to raise funds to buy specialist pilot uniforms for the Essex and Herts Ambulance, support children’s bereavement counselling for Farleigh Hospice and provide Sky TV for St Helena Hospice.

“Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”
