A SALON is taking on a new venture providing a wig service for people undergoing chemotherapy.

Ruari's Salon in Earls Colne is being refurbished from the end of September, and when the salon reopens again next month the brand new service will begin.

The service can be used by people with any medical hair loss, whether it be from Cancer or Alopecia.

Rory O'Shea, owner of the salon in the High Street, said it was to fight the stigma around wigs.

He said: "We will offer a complimentary consultation for people going through treatment and offer a range of wigs that can be heat styled.

"It was created by MyNewHair, a charity founded by Trevor Sorbie.

"I specialised in it 18 months ago and had training with stylist Trevor Sorbie himself.

"It's close to home as I have had Cancer in my family, and it's about fighting the stigma around wearing wigs.

"There's an assumption they are obvious but now they are very discrete.

"It's to take away that fear of coming to the salon."

The salon opened in October last year and is about to undergo the makeover to fix damage caused by a flood in June.

The refurb will include creating a new private room for the MyNewHair service.

Mr O'Shea, from Pretoria Road in Halstead, started training when he was 13 and said he was always looking for new things to try.

He said: "Everyone in the salon is really excited, we are always looking for new things to do.

"We really want to give something back to the community and said thank you to everyone who has supported us."

The last day of trading is on September 30, with the salon opening again October 18.

There will be a grand opening event on October 22.

On re-opening day 100 goodie bags will be handed out, and at the grand opening event there will be a raffle.
