POLICE were called to Halstead High Street last Tuesday after a man, with a donkey, claiming to be collecting money for charity caused a stir.
The man advertised that he was collecting money for The Donkey Charity in Colchester, although the charity was not licensed to be in Halstead.
Police were then called after the man allegedly refused to leave a resident’s property and threatened the owner.
The man has previously been seen in Halstead, alongside his donkey, claiming to be supporting the same charity.
Braintree District Council confirmed that there was no application made or permit issued for the man to fundraise in the area.
A police statement said: “Police were called to Halstead High Street at around 9.55am on Tuesday, August 23.
“A man had reported a man with a donkey, claiming to be collecting money for a donkey sanctuary, had threatened him after he asked him to move off his driveway.
“Officers attended and spoke to all parties.
“No-one has been arrested.”
