A FORMER silk weaving mill and famous Halstead landmark is still up for sale after a year.

The Grade II listed Townsford Mill was built around 1740 and went up for sale on Newman Commercial in June last year.

The building, which went up for sale for £895,000, is home to Dickens Restaurant, Halstead Antiques Centre and Halstead Town Council.

Three other tenants are in the outbuildings.

They said they had heard no news about potential interest in the site.

James Killberry, who owns the Halstead Antiques Centre, said: "We were told originally it was being put up for sale and there were people looking every so often.

"We have been here ever since it closed as a mill and there has been various combinations of ownership.

"It's all part of the life-cycle of the building, but everything is quiet at the moment. The whole economy has gone quiet."

John Dicken, who has had his restaurant at Townsford Mill for 13 years, said it would make no difference to any of the tenants and that it was nothing for them to worry about.

Halstead Town Council was contacted about the sale but no one was available to speak to.

Newman Commercial was also contacted for an update but no one was available.
