VILLAGERS once again flocked to the ever popular Chappel & Wakes Colne Village Fete.

Saturday afternoon at Chappel Primary School saw £6,500 collected by a variety of fundraising events for a number of local charities.

A range of events were put on for adults and kids alike. Organiser, Linda Goodchild, said: “It was a great day with a huge amount of money raised from such a small fete.”

Covered by Hospital Radio Colchester, the afternoon was full of entertainment from singers Marc Gilbert and Trevor Parrot to the grand opening by local landlord Steve Hipgrave.

The East Essex Hunt Hounds were in attendance with their Master of the Hunt, who was hugely impressed by the questions asked by the children.

The school dance troupe performed well while the Ladies Red Barrows once again dazzled the crowds with their amazing stunts.

Crowds raised £212 after the performance by throwing money into the wheelbarrows for Essex Air Ambulance.

Jackie Gotts and her son Billy also raised £200 as they braved the Shave for Macmillan Nurses.

The children’s races proved hugely entertaining as well as the walk the plank, tug of war, and the now famous egg throwing competition.

Organisers thanked hosts Chappel Primary School and everyone who donated prizes, ran stalls and gave up their time.
