PLANS have been reviewed to improve Halstead Town Centre.

Braintree Council has met over the past few days with Halstead Town Team and businesses in the High Street to work on the town's regeneration plans.

The proposals aim to support local businesses and attract shoppers by making positive changes to Halstead’s High Street.

The plans include offering a greater choice of parking, improvements for pedestrians around Jubilee Fountain, improving signage in the town centre and creating pedestrian crossing point towards the top of the High Street.

Tom Cunningham, cabinet member for economic development, said: “We’re working with the town team, high street retailers and the town council to pull together the next stage of plans which aim to enhance Halstead town centre.

"This follows supportive public feedback on our initial proposals; since then engineering and way finding studies have been carried out.

"We’re looking to improving the signage in the town, improve the crossing point at the top of the High Street close to Hedingham Road and Head Street, increase parking in the high street and possibly plant trees close to the top of the high street near the jubilee fountain.

"We will continue to work with the community to make sure we make the best changes for the town.”

Braintree Council will be meeting the town council in the near future to discuss plans.
