The first Halstead Soup event will be held at the town's fire station on July 1.

The new initiative will see people raise money for community projects over a bowl of soup.

Halstead Soup is based on Detroit Soup, set up after the city was forced to file for bankruptcy.

Jen Skingsley, the event organiser, said: "We're really looking forward to the launch event , we've had a great response from both people wanting to attend and organisations looking to pitch."

"We're excited to hear from those pitching this time and seeing how the event helps them with their project.

"It's all about facilitating the community to support local initiatives that benefit the Halstead area."

People donate a suggested £5 on the door, and receive a bowl of homemade soup.

During the evening, they hear from three local organisations or individuals with a project or idea that will benefit the Halstead area.

Those in attendance will then have the opportunity to question the three organisations.

Once the soup has been eaten and everyone has had a chance to chat, attendees vote for their favourite cause with their spoons.

The winner takes the door money as a contribution towards their project.

There are almost 50 soups now running in the UK.

The event will be held at the Fire Station between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
