A site next to land earmarked for residential development will be put forward for more housing.

Land off the corner of Fenn Road in Halstead could serve about 35 houses if it is included in the draft Local Plan.

Half of the site around Fenn Road has already been allocated in the Site Allocations Plan.

The area to the east of the brook was excluded because it protruded into the countryside.

Halstead Town Council said they may support development but only if there are road widening improvements.

Planning officers said: "The area west of the river was allocated in the Site Allocations Plan and this allocation should remain.

"The main issue is whether or not the area east of the river should also be allocated.

"It lies on the settlement edge and given the slope cannot be readily seen in distance views from the east.

"The Highway Authority has highlighted that on street parking is a serious issue. Thus on street parking bays and passing places should be provided."
